Thanks, Patrick. I know that the taste does vary by garden--the 'Scarlet Nantes' that were so flavorful at my old garden are fairly bland here, for example. I may mix in some yellows and whites next year and see how they do.

I like the white ones the best. The flavor is very mild, not at all bitter and the flesh is very tender. The yellow ones also have good flavor. The purple ones are not bad, but not very exciting.

Even in my garden these things vary from year to year, and I would expect in a different garden they would grow differently. I suggest growing a few of each and seeing which ones do well in your garden.

Very cool carrots. Love the purple ones. I grew purple haze this year and the colouring is very simlar to yours, maybe a bit deeper. The carrots themselves weren't very large. I had quite a number of bifurcated carrots as they were planted on top of the irrigation hose and decided to grow around it.

There's something very graceful and elegant about the bifurcated carrots ... not to mention the lovely colours of those varieties.

A trifurcation too ... that's impressive!

I just had the one bifurcation this year, where the root hit a stone. I know it's regarded as a fault when carrots do this but the forked ones are always the most interesting!
